Thanks to the generous financial contribution from local community member Randy Schenkat, Manitou Center is able to bring mindfulness into the classrooms at Winona Area Public Schools. Beginning in the fall of 2017, Manitou will be teaching mindfulness in 8 classrooms throughout the district. WAPS staff who have taken a 4-week Mindfulness Fundamentals course for their own understanding and practice, were able to register to have the 8-week mindfulness training in their classroom or with a small group of students.
Benefits of mindfulness can include increased focus and concentration, increased self awareness and impulse control, increased empathy and understanding of how to kindly treat oneself and others and overall increase in happiness and contentment in life.
Thanks to this funding from Randy Schenkat, nearly 200 students in elementary, middle and high school along with 8 teachers and additional staff will receive 16 sessions of mindfulness instruction and practice.
